This past Saturday was Inspiration Day at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art! We were lucky enough to spend the day with Tony DiTerlizzi (above, right), author of The Spiderwick Chronicles, Mo Willems, Sandra Boynton, and so many more amazing author/illustrators.

Don’t know The Carle? Located in Amherst, Massachusetts, about two hours west of Boston, it’s a one-of-a-kind museum devoted to the magic of children’s books and inspiring a love of both art and reading. It’s housed in a stunning building set in an apple orchard and features galleries as well as a reading room, cafe, theater, and of course a fantastic bookstore. In addition to checking out the new art exhibits, my family adores spending time in the well-stocked, hands-on art studio, where kids (and their parents) can create their own masterpieces and experiment with light tables, art supplies, and other items that get their creative juices flowing.

If you’re going, be sure to check out their upcoming events page. You’re likely to catch a reading by a well-known author, a puppet show or play, or a special activity in the art studio.
