Worth the Trip: Art in the Orchard

Outdoor sculpture parks are a wonderland of art and nature. For kids, they're also like a giant treasure hunt where they can burn off energy while viewing contemporary art with kid appeal. Just follow the sculpture trails to see giant figures dancing or soaring, intricate abstracts, and oversize animals.

Every September through Thanksgiving weekend Park Hill Orchard in Easthampton, Massachusetts, hosts a free pop-up sculpture exhibit (above) in their orchard overlooking the Mount Tom Range (gorgeous views + fall foliage = ideal holiday photo opp). Walk the half-mile trail, bring a picnic, pick apples, and top off the day with an apple cider smoothie from the farm stand. Yes, it's as mind-blowing as it sounds.

And check out some of my other favorite year-round outdoor art parks, too:

* Art Omi, Ghent, NY

* Storm King Art Center, Windsor, NY

* Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton Township, New Jersey
