About Mary

As the former Executive Editor of FamilyFun and FamilyFun Kids magazines and a former Senior Editor at Parenting, I specialize in helping families make the most of their time together. I’ve written, ghostwritten, and edited everything from social media posts, newsletters, and brochures to entire books, websites, and special interest publications. As one reader wrote of the work I do, “Your ideas remind me of why I wanted to become a parent in the first place.”

I am also a seasoned spokesperson, sharing many of these ideas and product recommendations on regional and national programs such as The Today Show, Live With Kelly and Michael, Good Morning America, The Early Show, Access Hollywood, ABC News, and CNN. I was lucky enough to be the toy editor at both Parenting and FamilyFun, overseeing the testing of hundreds of playthings every year before revealing the top toys each holiday season on national TV.

My work in print and digital content development has won numerous awards, including from the American Society of Magazine Editors, Media Industry News, Folio, and Parents’ Choice. I edited FamilyFun’s Super Snacks and My Great Idea books and oversaw the magazine’s line of award-winning special issues, Halloween, Christmas, Dinnertime, Create & Learn, and Easy Crafts for Kids. I also helped develop FamilyFun’s line of nationally distributed craft kits.

I am currently available as a spokesperson, writer, editor, brand consultant, and product development advisor. I happily reside in Western Massachusetts with my husband and 10-year-old son.

Michael Rush

Senior Vice President at
360 Public Relations

Mary and I have worked closely together for 5+ years on strategic marketing communications for the FamilyFun brand, including social media strategy and retail extensions, under Disney Publishing and also Meredith Corp. Mary is a seasoned editor, creative writer and senior manager, overseeing a team of digital media specialists, community managers and copywriters, both in-house and agency-side. She's brought to life multiple re-branding campaigns for the brand targeting Millennial moms and has been instrumental in both setting metrics for and motivating the PR team (and serving as our national spokesperson!). Mary is refreshing to work with and has become a trusted colleague AND friend over the years.

Ann Hallock

Former Editor-in-Chief of FamilyFun

Current Director of Communications at The Williston Northampton School

I've worked with Mary for more than ten years -- and she's one of the most professional and talented editors I know. Everything from her big picture thinking to her detailed line editing is superlative. She works very independently -- overseeing people, partners, budgets, and projects beautifully -- but is a great collaborator, too. She's also a expert spokesperson, who has represented our brand with style and professionalism on every platform, including some of the largest national TV shows around. I cannot say enough about what a gem she is to work with!

Mary is a modern content machine. She is a conscientious editorial leader, managing people and projects in ways that put quality and her audience first. She understands the dynamics of social and the always-on opportunity these connected channels represent. And she's an experienced natural with video. How many editorial talents do you know who've been seen by millions on TV - and lived to do it again? A classic respect for quality and integrity and a modern sensibility for multimedia storytelling make Mary one-of-a-kind.

Sarah Smith

Executive Editor at Redbook

As a colleague of Mary's, I found her to be an impressive and rare mix of big-picture idea person and get-it-done hard worker. She is smart in every way, about strategy, project management, people, and ideas. Over the years, as we've worked at different publications, I've relied on her keen insight to help me manage staff more effectively and to navigate a changing industry. She asks the best questions and offers thoughtful, considered opinions. She's a stand-out leader and a true pro at communicating, both one-on-one and to millions of readers.
