When I was the executive editor of FamilyFun magazine, I loved helping design these clever leprechaun traps, and now my family brings them out every St. Patrick's Day to try to catch a little Irish elf. As you may know, leprechauns are very mischievous, so the "No leprechauns!" sign just encourages them to steal the "gold" on top of our traps. We've yet to catch one, but they always leave us some candy in appreciation of our efforts.

The trap on the left is a cardboard box painted green, with rocks glued to the front for the leprechaun to climb up. The rainbow is made from pipe cleaners attached with hot glue. There's a trap door cut in the top, so the elf will (hopefully) fall in when he tries to steal the gold.

The trap on the right is an oatmeal canister covered in felt. To make a trap door, cut a hole in the lid, then place a piece of felt over it. We made a ladder from sticks for the leprechaun to climb.
